The #Yallmasking hashtag has taken over Twitter, with thousands of Covid-conscious individuals sharing photos of themselves in masks. Participants in this hashtag demonstrate their awareness of the damage SARS-CoV-2 can cause and their ongoing efforts to avoid infection. They reject the notion that a “return to normalcy” necessitates repeated Covid infections.

Seeing masks is rare these days. Many people have abandoned them, believing the rhetoric that Covid is no worse than a cold. However, those who understand the science and continue to mask up (predominately in crowded, indoor spaces with poor ventilation) often feel isolated as they are usually the only ones doing so.

This hashtag serves as an act of solidarity, providing lone maskers with a renewed sense of fortitude as we enter the fourth year of living with Covid.
